ZANZIBAR 2nd VICE PRESIDENT THANKS CUBAN COOPERATION

Havana, Cuba, March 16.- The Vice President of Zanzibar,  Ambassador Seif Ali Iddi, expressed his gratitude for the Cuban cooperation in the training of health professionals in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and advocated for diversifying bilateral links with Cuba.

According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry website (www.cubaminrex.cu), he told the Cuban ambassador to Tanzania, Ernesto Gómez Díaz, that the government of Zanzíbar, which includes the Unguja and Pemba islands, is commited to make the New Program for the Training of Doctors an example for Africa and the world.
Last week, the president of Zanzibar, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein, also showed his gratitude for the Cuban cooperation in that territory and thanked the Cuban government for having 50 students form Zanzibar studying medicine in Cuba.

Nowadays, there are 22 health professionals working in Unguja and Pemba. They are taking forward an education program and offering their assistance in public hospitals.

Shein recalled his official visit to Havana in 2008, and highlighted the achievements of the Cuban Revolution.

The relations between Cuba and Zanzibar date back to the 60’s, and have always been solid.
