Subject: "Syria: A Country in Crisis"
Date & Time: Saturday 12 March 2016; at 4:00 pm.
Venue: ZIRPP Office; Third Floor, behind Majestic Cinema (above ZANLINK)

Abstract: Syria is currently experiencing one of the worst civil wars since the end of WWII. The knock-on effects of this war are both devastating and far-reaching, with an ever-increasing number of deaths, displaced people and refugees. While it may seem to be a battle between a dictatorial regime and a group of underdog rebels, the situation is actually far more complex and has become a geopolitical conflict between a number of actors.

This presentation explores the origins of the conflict, looking at the geographic and political evolution of modern Syria. It also looks at the variety of players in the conflict and their impact on the situation. The way forward is also assessed in light of on-going efforts to end the conflict.

Tea, Coffee and Snacks will be served freely.
