Albinism is a genetically inherited disorder resulting from inability to produce melanin, a dark pigment that colors skin, hair and eyes; this situation leaves the affected people colored hence becoming different from others. For some time now Tanzanians have been witnessing a wave of brutal killings of people with albinism, commonly known as albinos.

Albinos in Tanzania have been facing serious problems of being killed and stigmatization, the killings have been driven by the belief advanced by some witchdoctors that the body parts have properties that confer wealth and good luck,a lot of progress has been made in this cause already by the government, NGOs and business communities.

As Zantel, we feel this is a critical moment for Tanzanians, and we want to be part of this important communications campaign to help end Albinism related deaths in Tanzania by using our core capacity as a telecom company to get the message out.

As part of our corporate social responsibility, ZANTEL is supporting TAS, in areas of public education, visibility and a donation, embarking in a journey together with Tanzania Albino Society to organize a campaign geared to promote awareness on albinism to our customers

ZANTEL is investing in educating the public on matters pertaining albinism by sending bulk SMS to our customers and using our various media programs.

ZANTEL will also provide different platforms to ensure visibility of Albinism messages through our staff meetings and other company events.
