A charity dedicated to promoting literacy world wide is looking for people to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
Books Abroad, which sends second hand books to schools in developing countries, will embark on its third-of-a-kind, exclusive, voluntary holiday this October from 13 – 27 to Zanzibar.
This gem of the Indian Ocean, rarely explored by tourism, will take you on a journey to remember through the intricacies of its troubled history, Spice Island treats, your own personal challenge and unique encounters with its vibrant people.
Last year’s Zanzibar project saw the first of a new, innovative approach to distribution for Books Abroad, aiming to reduce our costs further.
With the help of strong alliances that the charity has established through the years and the Zanzibar Library Services, they were able to deliver over 53,000 books to over 80 schools in just 2 weeks.
The Mission to Zanzibar will take you on exclusive visits to some of these schools, where you can see for yourself the benefits Books Abroad brings.
To take part, participants should fundraise towards the cost of the journey in aid of Books Abroad. An initial registration fee of £300 will secure your place, with a further minimum of £1200 in sponsorships to be raised before departure.
The cost includes airport transfers and internal travel in Zanzibar, twin share accommodation and breakfast, lunch and dinner; flights are NOT included to allow the freedom to travel from your chosen airport.
We anticipate that flights will cost around £800 to Zanzibar, alternatively you can fly to Dar Es Salaam and travel to the island by ferry or internal flight.
For details on how to join us and create your own individual experience to Zanzibar from October 13 – 27 2012, contact Books Abroad on 01464 861446 , email info@booksabroad.org.uk or visit our facebook page.
