JOB OPPORTUNITIES

The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) is the only public University in Zanzibar established by Act No. 8 of the House of Representatives of 1999. Since its inception in 2002 it has been expanding in academic programs as well as student enrolment. Its vision is to be the most preferred University in the Eastern Africa.

Requirement for Lecturers 

Qualifications

i) Applicants must have a PhD in relevant discipline (field of specialization)
ii) Applicants must have Cumulative GPA of not less than 3.5 at undergraduate degree level and at least cumulative GPA of 4.0 at Masters Level in the respective filed of specification. 
iii) Applicant must have IT skills (Computer literate)
iv) Prior experience in University level teaching is an added advantage

Qualities
i) Applicants must have very good command of both Swahili and English languages
ii) Excellent interpersonal skills
iii) Ability to communicate information, knowledge and skills to others
iv) Ability to work as a part of a team
v) Ability to exercise initiative and be proactive, and
vi) Motivation for innovation, further learning and continuing professional development.
vii) Problem solving and innovation skill;
viii) Ability to recognize those having difficulties, intervene and provide help and support; 
ix) Ability to work as an Academician and prepare quality research proposal.
x) Ability to write academic paper

Duties and Responsibilities

i. Undertake Academic teaching, Research and Consultancy services to the Public and Private Communities.
ii. Supervise Seminar and practical for Students
iii. Assist in setting assignments, test, exam as prescribed in the course syllabus and fill out assessment forms.
iv. Prepare marking scheme and to mark tests and assignments done by the students
v. Present examination and evaluation reports
vi. Guide and advice students on matters related to their academic development
vii. Assist students in research field work 
viii. Perform other University duties and responsibilities as may assign to him/her by Senior officials.

Requirement for Assistant Lecturers 

Qualifications
i. Applicants must have a Master Degree in relevant discipline (field of specialization)
ii. Applicants must have Cumulative GPA of not less than 3.5 at undergraduate Degree level and at least cumulative GPA of 4.0 at post graduate level. (Master) in the respective filed of specification. 
iii. Applicant must have IT skills (Computer literate)
iv. Prior experience in University level teaching is an added advantage

Qualities

i) Applicants must have very good command of both Swahili and English languages.
ii) Ability to communicate information, knowledge and skills to others
iii) Excellent interpersonal skills
iv) Ability to work as a part of a team
v) Ability to exercise initiative and be proactive, and

vii) Ability to prepare and deliver own teaching material;
viii) Problem solving and innovation skill;
ix) Ability to recognize those having difficulties, intervene and provide help and support; and
x) Ability to prepare quality research proposal.
xi) Ability to write academic paper and work as academician
xii) Applicants for the post of Assistant Lecturer Nursing MUST be Register by Recognized Authority

Requirements for Tutorial Assistants

Qualifications
i.Applicants must have a Bachelor Degree in relevant discipline (field of specialization)
ii.Applicants must have Cumulative GPA of not less than 3.5 at undergraduate Degree level in the respective filed of specification. 
iii.Prior experience in University level teaching is an added advantage.
iv.Experience in academic institution instructor as Sport is an added advantages ( for PESS)
v.Applicant must have IT skills (Computer literate)






Qualities

i) Applicants must have very good command of both Swahili and English languages.
ii) Ability to communicate information, knowledge and skills to others
iii) Computer literacy
iv) Excellent interpersonal skills
v) Ability to work as a part of a team

Requirements for Tutorial Assistant in Geographical Information System –GIS 

Qualifications 

i. Holder of Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field
ii. Applicants must have Cumulative GPA of not less than 3.5 at undergraduate Degree level in the respective filed of specification. 
iii. Prior experience in University level teaching is an added advantage.
iv. Applicant must have IT skills (Computer literate)

Qualities

i) Applicants must have very good command of both Swahili and English languages.
ii) Ability to communicate information, knowledge and skills to others
iii) Knowledge of Geo spatial Technology including operations of unmanned aerial vehicles 
(UAV) is an added advantage
iv) Excellent interpersonal skills
v) Ability to work as a part of a team
vi) Ability to exercise initiative and be proactive, and
vii) Motivation for innovation, further learning and continuing professional development.


Duties and Responsibilities

i. Undertake Academic teaching, Research and Consultancy services to the Public and Private Communities.

Requirement for Accountant (One post)

Qualification

i. Holder of Bachelor degree in Accountancy or related filed from a recognized learning institution
ii. Applicants must have very good command of the English language.
iii. Computer literacy especially in Accounting soft ware


Qualities

i) Experience in Accounting activities is an added advantages 
ii) Ability to communicate information, knowledge and skills to others
iii) Excellent interpersonal skills
iv) Ability to work as a part of a team
v) Ability to exercise initiative and be proactive, and problem solving skills

Duties and Responsibilities

i. Preparation of financial statements of income and expenditure at appropriate time.
ii. Administer the use of trust funds, insurance and royalties
iii. Receives, banks and directs proper use of all money paid to the University;
iv. Controls capital and recurrent expenditure;
v. Prepares timely payment of salaries and emoluments.
vi. Assists accountant officer I in supervising junior accounting staff on their daily duties.
vii. Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.




Requirement for Office Attendants (Two posts) 

Qualifications 

Holder of Form Four School Certificate. 
Knowledge of cleaning and office surroundings is an added advantage
Duties and Responsibilities 
i. Cleaning of offices, toilet, corridors, laboratories, conferences rooms etc,
ii. Distribution of documents and equipment.
iii. Assist in providing photocopies, binding and laminating documents
iv. Serve Top Management officers and people in meetings
v. Performs any other duties which may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.


Requirement for Transport Officer (One post) 

Qualifications 

i. Holder of Diploma in Automotive/Mechanical Engineering, Transport Management or its equivalent qualification. Clean driving license class C, D with at least four (4) years of relevant working experience at principal level
ii. Prior experience in Garage or Transport Management services from recognized organization in similar activities is an added advantage. 
iii. Must be able to communicate in both Swahili and English fluently. 
iv. Basic skills in Microsoft office application. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

i. Coordinates transport services of the University;
ii. Keeps records of transport services;
iii. Ensure the University vehicles are insured.
iv. Follows up traffic cases in collaboration with the legal officer;
v. Follows up motor vehicle accidents and submits claims to the Insurance Unit for compensation;
vi. Supervises activities of institutional drivers;
vii. Follows up repairs and maintenance of vehicles;
viii. Verifies more complicated problems in the vehicle needing repair
ix. Ensure that the University vehicles are taking services accordingly
x. Administer and supervise all drivers
xi. Advise and participate in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of University’s transport policies. 
xii. Supervises performance management and training of Drivers
xiii. Participate in preparation of all vehicles budgets
xiv. Ensures that spares for University vehicles are timely available;
xv. Plans maintenance schedules for institutional vehicles; and
xvi. Performs any other duty as may be assigned by reporting authority


Requirement for Driver (One post)

Qualifications 

Holder of Form IV certificate of Secondary Education with passes in Kiswahili and English and a valid Driving Clean license class C and D with at least three (3) years continuous driving experience. Must have a certificate from a recognised Driving School. Possession of VETA Trade Test/ VIP Driving course is an added advanteges.


Duties and Responsibilities 

i. Drives institutional vehicles safely
ii. Maintains logbooks
iii. Responsible for safe-keeping of the vehicle and tools entrusted to him/her 
iv. Maintains cleanliness of the vehicle.
v. Conduct minor repairs of the vehicle.
vi. Reports promptly any defect or problems detected in the vehicle
vii. Any other duties as may be assigned by one are reporting officer.

Requirement for Carpenter.

Qualifications 

Holder of Certificate/Diploma of Carpentry from recognized learning institution. Experience in carpentry activities is an added advantages.

Duties and Responsibilities.

(ii) Perform daily carpentry works including installation and fixing broken units in the system as applicable;
(iii) Participate in simple repair and maintenance of facilities;
(iv) Identify and reports on areas that needs rehabilitation in the system including the quantity of material required for repair work;
(v) Identify the likely defects that might cause damage carpentry systems;
(vi) Safeguard working tools/ equipment under his/her custody.
(vii) Perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.






Requirement for Electrician Technician.

Qualifications 

Holder of Diploma of Electrical from recognized learning institution. Experience in electrical installations and services is an added advantages.

Duties and Responsibilities.
(ii) Perform daily electrical works including installation and fixing broken units in the system as applicable;
(iii) Participate in simple repair and maintenance of facilities;
(iv) Identify and reports on areas that needs rehabilitation in the system including the quantity of material required for repair work;
(v) Identify the likely defects that might cause damage in electric systems
(vi) Safeguard working tools/ equipment under his/her custody.
(vii) Perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.


Requirement for Assistant Warden 

Qualifications 

Holder of Diploma in Education Psychology, Social Work or related field from a recognized learning institution. Skills and experience in Counseling, Social Welfare issues and Microsoft Computer Applications are added advantages 

Duties and Responsibilities 

i. Assist Dean of Students in counseling and guiding the students in respective Hall(s) of residence. 
ii. Attend all student matters that need his/her support in respective Hall(s) of residence. 
iii. Assist in coordinating students academic, cultural, recreation and sports activities in respective hall(s) of residence. 
iv. Advice the students Union issues and attend in meetings regarding the same.
v. Ensures safety, cleanliness and tranquility in hall(s) of residence.
vi. Take care of health problems of the students accordingly. 
vii. Performs any other duties as directed by the office of the Dean of the Students





Requirement for Legal Officer 

Qualifications 

Holder of Bachelor Degree in Law (LLB) with one year Intern-ship from a recognized learning institution. Skills and experience in Microsoft Computer Applications are added advantages 

Duties and Responsibilities 

(i) Index, files, registers University notices and all other legal documents and ensures their safe custody.
(ii) Compiles evidence relevant for court proceedings concerning the University.
(iii) Attends to registration of all legal documents.
(iv) Takes charge of documents and correspondences of all legal issues.
(v) Performs any other duties as may be assigned by one’s supervisor.
