Subject: "The People and Societies of the Coast of East Africa"
Date & Time: Saturday 27 June 2015; at 10.00 in the morning (since we are observing the Holy Month of Ramadhan)

Venue: ZIRPP Office; Third Floor, behind Majestic Cinema (above ZANLINK)

Abstract: A substantial amount of literature has been written and documented about the people and societies of the East African coast since colonialism and after independence. In other words, the people of East Africa have a long and rich history about their respective cultures, traditions and political inclinations. Abdularazak Gurnah, who is a Zanzibari and renowned professor of English Literature at Kent University, UK, has written a number of books on the people and societies of East Africa. He lives in UK and now on his recent visit to Zanzibar, has agreed to come and give a lecture at ZIRPP on this and other important issues of specific historical significance to the people of East Africa and specifically to Zanzibaris.
Since we are observing the Holy Month of Ramadhan, drinks and snacks will not be served as usual. Also, please note the change of time; i.e., the presentation will be made at 10.00AM in the morning, instead of 4.00PM in the afternoon.
