France and SUZA to forge comprehensive partnership

The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) and France government vow to create wide-ranging partnership in fostering socio-economic development. These were promised during the visit of the Ambassador of France to Tanzania His Excellency Frédéric Clavier when talking with Prof. Idris Rai, the SUZA Vice Chancellor and his officials on 16th October, 2018 at Vuga Campus.

H. E. Frédéric Clavier expressed his country’s readiness to partner with SUZA starting from the promotion of French language, agriculture and tourism sectors. “My country decides to choose the State University of Zanzibar as the focal point of cooperation and we shall soon need to know what France and SUZA have to make together in those areas of cooperation”, he said.

His Excellency Frédéric Clavier who was accompanied by Ms. Cécile Frobert, Head of Cooperation and Cultural Affairs of the French Embassy mentioned the areas of agriculture and tourism as among key growth sectors in the economy that could drive other sectors along into development if enhanced. He insisted that France and Tanzania have had good relationship since a long time ago hence collaborating with SUZA will further strengthen their support.

Talking about the priority to enhance French language H. E. Frédéric Clavier said there is a great need for individuals to develop interest in learning other languages including French so as to improve upon their lives through the existence of a wide range of global job opportunities.

On his side Prof. Idris Rai expressed his appreciation for the timely visit of His Excellency Frédéric Clavier. He informed him that Zanzibar has been enjoying good companionship with France in various disciplines and the time is now high for this collaboration to be further extended.

Prof. Rai clued up that in the very near future his institution will merge with Kizimbani Agricultural Training Institute (KATI) being the government move which is intended to develop expertise in agricultural sector. “In running this institution efficiently we need to build our capacity, so far we lack adequate professionals and resources in reaching this goal, so we hope our partnership would resolve this confronted setback”, he added.

He also requested for the setting up of joint programme between SUZA and French higher learning institutions in tourism studies including hospitality management discipline so as to boost our tourism which is among the main sectors of our economy, adding that this link will be of enormous importance.
