CECAFA TOURNAMENT MOVED AGAIN NOW TO BE HOSTED IN DAR

The Kagame Cecafa Club Championship which was earlier moved from Zanzibar and then Sudan will now be played in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The tourney runs from June 21 to July 5. Cecafa secretary Nichloas Musonye confirmed the change to Daily Monitor yesterday.

“The tournament will be in Tanzania and we shall make an official announcement next week,” Musonye said. This was necessitated by the situation in Uganda’s northern neighbours.

In addition, the main sponsors in Sudan – El Merreikh – failed to agree with the local federation there whom they felt were not ready to host the tourney.

Musonye thinks that moving the event is in the best interest of everyone. “We have spoken to our sponsors, some of whom are in Tanzania. I am confident that they (Tanzania) will host a good tournament.”

Bunnamwaya will represent the country by virtue of being the outgoing league champions with Rwandan President Paul Kagame staking $60,000 (about Shs144m) in prize money.
