ZIRPP Monthly Lecture
There will be another ZIRPP Monthly Lecture.
Speaker: Dr. Ahmed Gurnah; ZIRPP Deputy Executive Director.
Subject: “The Problems and Challenges of Development in Zanzibar”.
Date & Time: Saturday 16 February 2013; at 4:15 pm.
Venue: ZIRPP Office; Third Floor, behind Majestic Cinema (above ZANLINK)
Abstract
Though much has been gained in Zanzibar since the revolution, sadly economic and social developments have not been as satisfactory as everyone would have liked. Standards in education have dropped considerably, health care is inadequate, municipal services are poor, law and order and community safety is poor, urban planning hardly functions, electricity and water services are lamentable and so on. That is puzzling because Zanzibar has been receiving a lot of assistance from Europe, USA and elsewhere. It has also produced an impressive collection of modern and progressive policies in all these areas, it has trained many staff to deliver these services and sought technical assistance and advice very widely. In this discussion, Dr. Gurnah will explore some of the well known reasons for this inadequacy and a few not so much discussed for this disappointing performance.
Tea, Coffee and Snacks will also be served freely.
You may wish to bring one or two friends with you.
Please confirm your participation.
All are welcome.

stop using politician's language , you say much has been gained , but you have pointed out the problems( economy , social , health , education etc) which are indicators of development , so this so called ' much gained' wat is it? or do you mean polician's personal development? you dont need audience to tell us the problems , break the union and see how znz develops within 5 years to extent that you cant imagine,my feeling you and your organization are offspring of ruling govt which pays you to conduct these stupid lectures , be honest , you should have said in your first sentence ' nothing has been gained since revolution...... , nyote nyie ni mamluki tu wa serikali mnataka kubabaisha wapumbavu na wajinga. MY advice to walalahoi , dont attend these lectures, the snacks etc is nothing but form of bribe to attract audience to sell govt policies , NDUGU WANANCHI AMKENI HIZI HOTUBA HAZINA MAANA ZAIDI YA KUKUPOTESHENI ZAIDI,
ReplyDeletemchangiaji hapo juu kafafanua vizuri zaidi, maana kusema ' much has been gained' ikisha ukatoa matatizo mengi ya kimaendeleo yanayowasibu wazanzibari basi ni kusema 'kisiasa', sie hatuvunjiki moyo ila watu wengi wanajuwa kwanini hayo yote yakatokezea.
