Abstract: Over several years, the people of Zanzibar have been experiencing an increasing number of land disputes in their respective locations. In other words, there isn't a single district or region that has not been adversely affected by a multitude of land disputes involving one or several individuals against others.

 

In the efforts to curb this immensely chronic problem, the Government of Zanzibar has strategically elected to submit a Bill to the House of Representatives which, in turn, passed Land Registration Act No. 10 of 1990, aimed at efficiently and effectively governing land use as well as the registration of all rights concerning land, such as the right of occupancy, leases and charges, with the view to putting all these components in a permanent land register.

 

For the purpose of providing our members and all those who are interested to learn and comprehend the development and intricacies of this important subject, Ms. Mwanamkaa Abdulrahaman, a distinguished Lands Registrar in the Ministry responsible for Lands and Housing, will give a presentation that will, among other things, cover the objective of land registration and its whole process, starting from adjudication, survey to subsequent registration.
