The 2016 Competition for the African Leaders of Tomorrow (ALT) Scholarship Program


Funded by the Government of Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) and The MasterCard Foundation, the ALT Scholarship Program commemorates the late Nelson Mandela’s commitment to social justice and equity by offering young African women and men the opportunity to study in a Master’s degree program in public administration, public policy or public finance at a Canadian university.

The 2016 Competition for study programs starting in September 2016 is now open. The deadline to apply is November 2nd, 2015, at 23:00 GMT.

Eligibility criteria:
  • be a citizen and a resident from sub-Saharan Africa;
  • be between 22-35 years old;
  • have two to five years of full-time work experience in the public sector, civil society or research institution/academia in Africa;
  • have completed an undergraduate degree (equivalent to 4 years of university) with a minimum average of B (75%);
  • be fluent in either English or French; and
  • meet the academic requirements of the study program of choice.

The ALT Scholarship Program is managed by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), in partnership with The Institute for Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) and in collaboration with the African Association of Public Administration and Management (AAPAM) and the Canadian Association of Programs in Public Administration (CAPPA).
