PRODUCTIVITY and NATIONAL COMPETITIVENESS: PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES FOR THE NEXT DECADE"

1.0    Introduction
The idea of conducting higher education forums was conceived with a view to creating a platform for sharing of knowledge, skills and experiences amongst higher education institutions and other stakeholders on various issues of academic as well as of national interest. The aim of the forums is to address major issues and challenges of higher education emanating from the unprecedented expansion of higher education in Tanzania, particularly through the establishment of private universities and expanded enrolment in public universities, as well as the changing global higher education landscape.
The first forum was held in 2008 and this year’s forum is 7th in the series.

2.0. Theme and the Objectives of the 7th Higher Education Forum
2.1       The main theme of the 7th Higher Education Forum 2015 will be "Building skills for enhancing productivity and national competitiveness: Prospects and challenges for the next Decade".
In order to address this thematic area, the 7th HEF will discuss and deliberate on strategies for skills development for realizing economic potentials in Tanzania.

2.2       Objectives of the 7th Higher Education Forum are:

        i.            To determine the role of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in supporting sustainable development through skills development in the country, with a focus on the type of knowledge and skills generated by HEIs and the actual national needs for knowledge, skills and competencies.


  1. To identify key opportunities that HEIs could tap to be able to play a central role in the country’s sustainable development with a focus on creating employment of graduates.
   iii.            To set strategies for facilitation of strong network between HEIs and the private sector/industry and among key Higher Education Stakeholders.

3.0 Organizers, Venue and Dates of the 7th Higher Education Forum (HEF)
The 7th HEF 2015 which is jointly being organized by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MoEVT), Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU), National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) and the Committee of Vice Chancellors, Principals and Provosts Tanzania (CVCPT)  will be held in Arusha at Naura Springs Hotel from 1st to 2nd October 2015.


4.0 Forum Participants
The 7th Higher Education Forum (HEF) 2015 is intended to bring together key Higher Education stakeholders from within and outside the country to share experience, information and knowledge and strategize on the roles of each stakeholder in the development of the country. Forum participants will include government functionaries, the private sector, development partners, civil society organizations, professional bodies, academicians, employers association and politicians.

5.0 Exhibitions
The 7th Higher Education Forum will run concurrently with exhibitions by participating organizations/institutions and other stakeholders to showcase their goods, services and achievements to the public. The Forum is expected to be attended by Government Senior Officials, functionaries from Millennium Development Accounts (MDAs), leaders of Higher Education Institutions in the country and from the East Africa Community member States, Development Partners, Non-state organizations/civil societies, the private sector, Employers’ Association, and Recruitments agencies.
Higher Education, private sector and government institutions and other stakeholders are invited to contribute and participate in this Forum and the exhibitions
